Even so, Civic’s “Future Forecast” is an electrifying debut album that gives ample insight into Melbourne’s punk youth culture. Forthese moments, the sound of the album could be described as punk rock with slight influences of punk-pop; filled with simple, easy to listen to, punk songs that will become hymns. Songs such as “Freakin’ Out” and “Sophie” could be danced to as they have catchy tunes that incite listeners to enjoy the craziness of being young. The recording is professional and lean but this retains a certain level of roughness to let people see that these are three musicians having fun. All of them, except frontman Jim McCullough, whose vocations are strongly characteristic of punk hardcore. Overall, tracks like “Future Forecast” appear to be a fun and exuberant live performance and makes it a worthy listen to fans who wish to feel the enthusiasm of a live performance.
