tcr! – Yesterday Blurs

Solo operation tcr! writes all his own music, plays all his instruments and records and mixes it by himself. That's important when you listen to this track. That feeling of one person sitting alone with their thoughts, and gradually making them loud, raw and alive through the music can be felt.

“Yesterday Blurs” is not seeking sympathy or an in-depth explanation. It just presents things the way they are. The song is about memory and old resentment and that some feelings remain the same. It's sometimes a bit rough and rough around the edges, but I believe that's what makes it strong and connects with it.

The guitars sound quite heavy and rough, and it is important to the emotion of the track. There's nothing ornamental or superfluous about them. They fit snugly with the bass and give this constant tension under all of it. The drums continuously drive the song forward in a way that doesn't make it slow, stuck or self-obsessed.

The vocals are likely the most interesting aspect of the song. The delivery is a bit distant, uneven, and even hypnotic at times. There's a flatness to the voice that somehow makes the words have more impact than a dramatic performance would. It's really fitting for the emotional tone of the song. It's a sense of emotional stress and subtle harm lurking under a seemingly normal exterior.

The production remains raw and direct throughout. No glossy finish to hide the flaws and no effort to soften the edges. Well, that's the best thing to do for this type of song. Too much polish would have made it too weak. tcr! is just trying to be honest about how he feels, not being something else. “Yesterday Blurs” is personal, real, and well-crafted, and leaves a quiet lingering aftertaste.
