POTSHERDS released their song called Tomorrow, which is set to the tune of the kind of uncertainty we all know but never voice. The band, which was originally made up of three musicians from Myanmar, use this song to try to sit in that feeling of wanting to let go, but still wanting to move forward anyway, while they're based in Singapore.
The three of them worked for years establishing an audience by releasing Burmese-language content, and then decided to venture into English to reach a larger audience. That's a big step to take and Tomorrow proves it's the right one. Their emotional sincerity, which has always been a part of their work, is still present, but now extended, without sacrificing what makes it good.
The track is more of an alternative rock with some substance. The rhythm section is very well kept and drives forward without any rush, but there are heavy layers of guitar, which keep a sense of tension throughout. The vocal delivery is raw and a little rough in places, but it's appropriate, as if the emotion is too strong to be refined.
The remarkable thing is that the band manages to be heavy at moments, and melodic at others. No hiding hooks under noise in the song. On the contrary, every riff, melody, and beat in every guitar part and rhythm seems to be for the sake of the emotion in the middle. The arrangement has a push pull that is quite apparent in the lyrics of the song.
All three are also full-time working in Singapore, and they write and record outside of their work hours. That detail matters. It's not music that was made to fit a fad or ease the way. It's a natural enthusiasm and the band deal with it end to end.
Tomorrow is the third English single, and will follow their first full-length album later this year. To indicate the direction in which POTSHERDS is going, it feels confident and steady. It is sincere, solid, and never assumes to be something it isn't. POTSHERDS are an alternative rock band in the true sense of the word and for those who listen for alternative rock, with substance, they are definitely a band to keep an eye on in this new chapter.
