Neodym – Midnight Flow

NEODYM is a singer, songwriter and live electronic musician who has been working on a project that is truly her own for the past several years. She has written and recorded a debut album, and has played concerts in Europe, Japan and the United States, as well as been supported by radio stations from various countries around the world. She has certainly been busy for a long time. “Midnight Flow” is sort of like when all your work comes together, and it turns into something more full and greater.

It's a very appealing track from the beginning. The beats are steady and the synths are overlaid on top of them and it's pretty retro and modern. The influence of the 80's synthpop can be heard, but not in a way that's just trying to be retro. The ambience is pretty great here. I think there's this late night feel to the entire song.

The most prominent is probably the singing. Her voice is deep, smoky and extremely soothing. No rush or urgency. It also is a very intimate song in terms of how she sings it, singing to one person rather than to the listeners. I believe that's something that can't be faked. It's either there or it's not. NEODYM is certainly real.

The song is in a very particular mood and place lyrically and emotionally. It's about temporary connections, tension, and the odd hours of late at night where things seem more solid and maybe more precarious. It's like something out of a movie, but not so over-the-top. The song is not a mere play. It's like you're sitting in a chair while it is dancing around you.

It is also her first preview of her new album “Neo-Dance” which she produced with German producer Sven Kuhlmann. If this one is any indication of the album, then it's definitely worth listening to. NEODYM is a painter with a definite style and purpose. “Midnight Flow” is considered, atmospheric, and open, but it's not loud, demanding attention.
