The Radio Addicts – Scroll My Life Away

Coming out of the gate like a young kid with all the energy of their youth and the confidence of old rock and roll vets, The Radio Addicts, a band from Bolton, hit hard on their first single, Scroll My Life Away. Led by the charismatic 14-year old Luke on vocals and guitar, and with Daniel (14) on lead guitar, Vincent (12) on drums, and Jonathan (11) on bass, the four of them inject the raw punk spirit into a song that is as relatable as it is riotous.

It is a deftly acerbic observation on current phone obsession, set to the sort of upbeat, snappy playing that would have made early Buzzcocks proud. Snarling but tuneful vocals by Luke drive the song with a maturity that belies his age and the guitar of Daniel is full of punk attitude. Vincent and Jonathan, who are still very young, create a rhythm section that is tighter than even many bands with twice their experience demonstrating that talent has no age.

Created with a Do-It-Yourself aesthetic that fits their ragged appeal, Scroll My Life Away has as much manic energy as it does a chorus made to be shouted by crowds. It has the anthemic promise of early Oasis, but the genetic code of the song is more punk rebellion a finger in the face of screen-time slavery and it is executed with a sense of joyous abandon that has already seen them gain a fiercely loyal fanbase.

The Radio Addicts do not only play music, they live it. Their rise to fame is like a meteor as they go from selling out home town gigs to converting American radio stations. Scroll My Life Away is not only a debut, it is a statement. Stay tuned.
