The third album by New Zealand’s The Beths is very much situated in the punk-rock sphere but also combines it with the upwardly spiralling, otherworldly themes of the new Midwestern emo. Elizabeth Stokes takes the lead by singing with passion and panc h of this song, dealing with issues to do with relationships and after effects of a break up. The single “When You Know, You Know” embodies such a concept to the letter and gives the audience a taste of Black’s longing for resolution in the midst of chaos. Musically the band jumps from high involvement of appealing tunes to higher engagement of zesty beats, which makes the atmosphere very energetic and jovial. All of them convey a message of impending apocalypse, as the band continuously moves forwards from their sound. “Expert In A Dying Field” solidifies The Beths’ position in the indie-rock genera as the band progresses the direction for future generations to follow.
