It is an excellent album that shows a thrilling return for the band due to their desire of going to their origins but at the same time improving their style. There is the song “Day Drinker, with he side sick guitar rhythm and vocals that start off the album in a powerful manner. The band’s discontent with the political situation, their relationships and personal identity expressed in the album is presented with music that can be recognised as belonging to Bloc Party. Some of the songs such as “Traps” can be described as energetic and resembling earlier songs of the band but with a new influence from the modern day. The chemistry among the band members comes out clearly making it enjoyable and fresh to hear music that reminds me of the past. Indeed, ‘Alpha Games’ is the indie rock album of the year and perhaps, one of the best indie rock albums in the past few years that captures the Spector’s growth as a band.
