Sharp Edge by Smushie features a playful ride through the themes of love, with a mid-century flair of Austin Koenigstein’s Chicago. As suggested by those lovely layers of expressive vocals, the track can be compared with Destroyer or Foxygen added with spirited piano and twangy guitar notes. Seeing the music video, I can report that making it full of nostalgia with the recording made on a friend’s tape machine as the main advantage making the song very emotional. Continuing through the songs verses, bounding forth into choral fantasia to find the listener dancing with the melodic payoff of the chorus. The parts of twangy guitars towards the end add a longing feeling to the end product, making “Sharp Edge” a pleasurable radio friendly product that looks at the beauty of risk taking in love.
