In “Mass Transit,” a single latest release by hotplug, the listener goes on those smooth and haphazard car rides, all jazzy and rhythmic in the verses only to grab the steering wheel kicks at the chorus typical hotplug style. Self produced in the band’s home studio in Sacramento, the track is a perfect representation of the change from a quirky pop band…to a rocking alt band. The swelling distortion latches the listeners, particularly on the songs where expressivly performed vocal with laid-back feeling is used. It auto-progresses, leading you into a verse and at once you’re in a world of bouncy tune and raw 90’s vibe. Together, these sounds create a cohesive listening experience which takes listeners through a lot of territory and directly hits on the idea behind ‘Mass Transit’, the title of this EP, of travel through personal implications and of looking back at moments lost and forward at the world.
